Retelling Little Red Riding Hood

Dear Isaiah,

During our inquiry into stories you developed as a speaker and performer. At first you were very nervous to participate in dramatic retells, but by the end of our unit of inquiry you were leading a group to retell Little Red Riding Hood dramatically. Your wolf and grandma puppets gave you the idea to retell the story using puppets and props. You worked with some friends during free playtime to retell the story, adding music and sound to represent the mood of the story (for example, a drum for the wolf).

When I asked you about this work, you said:

"It was so fun and we got to be the wolf and the grandma. Max and me did the drums and the guitar."

Writing: Before & After

Dear Isaiah,

You have made a lot of progress in writing this year. Here is a sample of your work from September:

This piece shows that you were experimenting with beginning consonant sounds and some ending sounds. You used a mix of letters for invented spelling. Here is a piece of your work from May:

This work shows that you can now record many beginning, middle, and ending sounds using your knowledge of the alphabet and letter-sound connections. You use spaces between many words and spell some words that we see often (high frequency words) correctly.  You write full ideas, sentences, and even stories. You love writing and often practice it during your free playtime.

Congratulations on your progress Isaiah! You have worked very hard on your writing.

The Unit of a Pattern

Easy Blog Photo

Dear Isaiah,

When we reflected on our inquiry into patterns, you pointed out this Draw and Tell app sticker pattern as an example of your best work. You explained: "I like making patterns because I even make patterns at home. I thought hard about what to circle [the unit]."
